Generative engine optimization, or GEO, considers how generative search and assistant systems assemble a response from many sources. The work still needs clear answer passages, but it also emphasizes entity consistency, corroboration, author identity, source reputation, and a connected body of material that can support more complex questions.

Record the query, market, date, interface, cited URL, and result before drawing a conclusion.

The decision rule

If a proposed AEO tactic makes the page more useful, easier to access, clearer about its subject, and better supported, it is probably worth testing. If it depends on hidden text, repeated filler, fake author profiles, unverified schema, or a promised citation, it is not a durable strategy.

Service businesses do not need to choose between AEO and GEO as competing packages. They need an information system that answers real customer questions, expresses the business consistently, and gives people and machines enough evidence to understand what is true.
